St. Louis (October 1, 2002) - Divergence, Inc. was a presenting company at the
BIO Venture Forum in San Francisco, California today. This annual conference is the largest of
its kind and less than a third of the applying companies were selected to present. BIO is the
Biotechnology Industry Organization.
"Participating in this conference is a great opportunity for Divergence," said Derek Rapp, Chief
Executive Officer of Divergence and forum presenter. "Being recognized as a company with significant
science targeting large, promising markets is a meaningful accomplishment."
"We expect to continue to cultivate relationships with sophisticated investors, and we hope those
relationships will lead to financing at attractive terms," continued Rapp. "We are proud that the
Divergence team has accomplished a great deal in discovery, development, and intellectual property
creation around parasite control and that it has done so efficiently. We are determined to continue
to operate at a high level."
Divergence, Inc. is a research and development company dedicated to the discovery of effective and
ecologically sound strategies for the control of parasites and other pests. The company's initial
focus is on parasitic nematodes, one of the world's major pest groups. Nematodes are roundworms that
cause billions of dollars in damage annually to numerous crops, including corn, soybeans, cotton,
strawberries and bananas. Nematodes also cause widespread disease in animals, including infections
such as heartworm in dogs and cats and intestinal worms in livestock. Nematode-induced human diseases
include elephantiasis and African river blindness.
